I was digging through Amazon this morning for good President’s Day deals on smart home gear and I found a few worth noting. Please note: My home doesn’t include any Alexa products, so I’m not adding anything from the Amazon brand here. I’ll only add products below that I have experience with and feel confident highlighting.

First, same as I reported yesterday, the Arlo Pro 2 is a solid outdoor camera system and is very heavily discounted. I ordered a 2 camera set today and will write up a review soon.

The Pro 3s are on sale, but not at a very good discount – I would wait for a better price.
If you’re looking for a good hub to build around, SmartThings is probably my favorite. It integrates nicely with tons of 3rd party gear, is priced well, and has strong IFTTT support. The only negative is that it doesn’t integrate with Nest natively. However, I use it as my sense/react core for almost everything in my house.

For lighting, I stick with Philips Hue. I still have a lot of LIFX lights in the house, but they constantly lose connection to my wifi. I may be able to solve this by assigning an IP to each or adjusting the mesh system – who knows. For now, it’s super frustrating, so I’m slowly moving to a Hue-only home.
Probably the best sale right now is on the Hue Lily outdoor spot lights. Not because the price is significantly less than normal, but because it very rarely goes on sale.

Ring doorbells are on sale. These doorbells are pretty solid for the price and have been around for a while (for you basketball fans out there, Shaqil O’Neal is a big backer of Ring) . The best doorbell is probably by Nest (Nest Hello), but has less integration options with other systems and hubs. Ring is a solid choice for those using Alexa or want to expand to a larger Ring ecosystem.
